二重星の見え方の分類：Harshaw Scaleについて

Harshaw Scaleというのは、米国のアマチュア天文家Richard Harshaw氏が二重星の
対象を見え方により下記の5段階に分類したものです。Richard Harshaw氏は、
33-doublesのメーリングでも発言されている方です。

　1.Outstanding view（傑出した眺め）
　2.Very fine view, better than average（非常に素晴らしい眺め、平均よりも良い）
　3.Average（平均的）
　4.Sub-average, disappointing（平均以下、期待外れ）
　5.Very disappointing, hardly worth the effort（非常に失望させられる、（見る
　　ための）努力する価値がない）

どういうものを上記スケールに当て嵌めるかは、人により異なると思いますが、
Saguaro Astronomy ClubのThad Robosson氏は、下記のように説明しています；
1. A wonderful, must see every time out object,rich, large, or quite colorful.
　I will sometimes give a “1” to quite difficult, but rewarding objects,
　such as close pairs of doubles.→カラフルさなどいつ見ても素晴らしいもの。
　接近した二重星で分離が難しいがやりがいのあるものも１に含まれる。
2. A rewarding object, but may be a tiny bit of a let down after a long star hop.
　Possibly a challenge, but with a bit less payoff. →見る甲斐のある対象だが、長い
　スターホッピングの後に少し力を緩めたようなものであるかもしれない。恐らくチャレン
　ジングだが、得られるものはやや少ない。
3. Your typical run of the mill object. Worth looking for, but possibly faint,
　or colorless. Maybe a challenging object that gave just a touch of payoff,
　but might be worth looking for under better conditions.
　→典型的なありきたり(=run of the mill)の対象。探す価値はあるが、おそらく微かで
　色も無い。ほんのわずかしかクライマックスを与えないチャレンジングな対象かもしれない、
　(but 以下は省略）。
　（注）・run of the millは、ordinaryと同義。
　　　　　例：He wears run of the mill fashion.（彼はありきたりの格好をしている）
　　　　・payoff：（米俗）＜事件、物語りの＞クライマックスの意味あり。
　　　　　例："Two outs, bases are loaded, everybody is on their feet,
　　　　　　　and here comes the payoff pitch."（2アウト満塁、観客は全員
　　　　　　　総立ち。２ストライク３ボールからの投球です。）
4. A very bland object, and barely worth any star hop short of it being next
　to a brighter star. Maybe a challenging object that wasn’t really worth
　the effort. →非常に味気ない対象でスターホップで次の明るい星にいく前にちょっと
　見るくらいの価値も殆どない。本当に努力する価値がないチャレンジングな対象かも
　しれない。
　（注）・bland：味気ないの意味有。
5. A non-existent object in the eyepiece. In any case, not seen, resolved,
　or split.→アイピースに存在しない対象。いずれにせよ、見えない、分解できない、
　或いは分離できない。
